How does someone/something earn or keep power?

Everyone wants power its hard to have power but it easy for it to be taken away from you. Power can be earned by showing that you can be trusted so matter what and that you can help them make the right decisions. For example, Obama is the president he has earned many peoples trust like those people believed in him that's why they chose them to be president.
